A hall built by the village, for the village
No council funding, no big grant behind us. Every hire, ticket and donation keeps the lights on and the roof sound.
Our story
The hall was raised by subscription just after the First World War, on land given by a local farming family. It has been a school room, a dance hall, a polling station and, for one memorable winter, a barn.
A century on, it does much the same job. Pilates on Monday morning, bowls in the evening, a christening on Saturday and the parish meeting the week after. It is the only indoor space in the village big enough to get everybody in one room.
The hall is a registered charity, run by a committee of volunteer trustees drawn from the village. Nobody is paid. Anything we take beyond running costs goes straight back into the building.
Where the money goes
Heating, insurance, electricity, licences and cleaning come first. What is left funds the work you can see: the new kitchen, the accessible WC, the boiler and — next on the list — the roof.
